Blue Chair mini session - brother & sister

This sweeeeeeet brother and sister came to play with me at one of our Blue Chair mini sessions recently.

This family is newly transplanted to our North Texas area from San Antonio. Their mom had a photographer that she loved in their old home town, but once they moved, of course she had to find someone new. I am so happy she found us because it was a joy to photograph her cuties!

Big brother W just turned 5, and little sister K is 14 months old.

W is such a good big brother. He was a great helper the whole session and read K 's book to her, and was quick to pop his head in with a smile when he knew we were trying to get K 's attention. He knew that his job was to be the example and he was such a sweetheart, doing that job perfectly.

Doesn't get much sweeter than this!

 Pretty girl with her bow in her hair! (the bow was soon chunked when K realized it was in there, but at least we were able to capture it in the beginning!)

And their momma was worried we didn't get any of K...

He's such a proud big brother...

Yeah, did I say W is 5?... because I meant 25... 

He has this 'look PRECIOUS in front of the camera' thing down.

 

I love photographing kiddos with their own, personal belongings that they love. (Like little K with her favorite book!) When you look back at pictures of your children 20 yrs from now, it may be hard to remember exactly what you child was in love with at the moment, so I always encourage parents to bring their kids' favorite items to their session, (whether at a mini session, or a regular on-location session.)

As you can see, we have a future baseball player here.

 

These little sessions are so fun! They are short and sweet. From start to finish, we captured all of these (and more!) beautiful images in exactly 30 minutes!

Oh, and to state the obvious, their Mom ordered all of her pictures in black/white. I love that! It's timeless and classic. Beautiful.

Will Quack for Jelly Beans

It's been 6 months since we've seen this gorgeous family. (Well, one of their pictures is in my blog header above, that you see everyday!)
But now, you might notice a new little man that decided to join their party and make them a family of 4!

M was born just a couple weeks after his mommy's maternity session. When we recently met, he was 6 months old, and just as smiley as could be!

His big brother's awesome jumping skills provided quite the entertainment for the little guy.

2-yr.-old M and his Papa have such a beautiful, unabashed adoration for each other. (And as sweet as this image is with them nuzzling, it's also endearingly funny remembering a similar shot 6 months ago! I think it's now safe to say that M has a cute ear fetish.)

This glance melts my heart. Such a sweetie!

Super Baby flies! (Isn't his head full of long peach fuzz the cutest?!)

This was so funny, M trying to "feed" the duck jelly beans.
(And you know I rarely do the editing with a spot of color in a black/white image, but I wanted to keep the jelly bean green in this shot, to be sure you could see it and how comical it was in that bronze duck's mouth!)

Little M, and your sweet baby lips, the next time I'll see you, it will no longer be sitting that is your new milestone, but closer to walking!
(But for now, stay just this precious, dependent size, okay?)

Fresh Air, Golden Light

The first time I photographed M & M, it was with....dum dum dum (said dramatically)...... FILM! That was 3 years ago, and since then not only has my photographic repertoire grown, but so have these precious red-headed beauties! (Well, 2 of the 3 are red-headed beauties.)

At their session, I did something I don't often do. I always wonder whether kiddos are more natural in front of their parents, or without their parents. I'm sure it's usually a toss-up because of course kiddos can get excited and act up when Mom & Dad are gone, but also, pictures are sometimes stressful, with getting outfits ready, fixing your hair, and keeping clean, etc., that I think sometimes it helps when the youngin's feel like they can relax and just play now that everything is ready and I (the photographer) have arrived. With M & M, since they are school-age, I took a chance and asked their mom if she minded if I hung out with them sans guardians. Being the cool mom that she is, she said that was okay, and off we went.

Since they have so much land, a barn, a pond, (this is the dock to their pond that the kiddos + pup are on), and a couple doggies & horses, (and I believe geese were also there, but we didn't capture those), you can see that we had so much to play with! 

And finally at the end, the kids were so good for me, I asked them to be silly, and just be themselves...and this is what came out.

Then off in to the sunset until next time...

I decided to try something new with this blog post. If you can spot what is different with this post than with any other post I've ever put on here, (I think it's slightly obvious, but I thought I'd ask just to see if it was only a big change to me!), the first person to email me and tell me what the different thing is, will get a credit for a free 5x7 print on their next session!

Curious Spirit

It's been about a year and a half since I've seen Little Man E. Back then he was a 7-month-old cover baby.

Now?
Now he's two years old and ON. THE. GO!!!

His momma said that about her boy. That he loves the outdoors, and all things boy! So we did the things that E loves. We ran through the grass, climbed the rocks, and even stuck fingers in the water. But there is a bit of irony there, because when trying to keep a toddler's cute picture clothes clean....what are 3 things you shouldn't do? (see above what took place!)

So it became a fun game: let E do the things he loves, but just be careful!
And so while he explored, I got to see the outdoors from his perspective, and capture his curious spirit.

And his smart momma brought along her best helper. Big sister Z was there to not only help us keep E from getting hurt, (all those boy things tend to end up in boo-boos!), but also, just like with our first session two summers ago, no one can make him crack up like his big, protective sister.

Well, no one can make him laugh like her, but also.... it appears that sisterly affection brings out the 'you better take the picture now before I run' faces, too.

(Such a funny expression! It really is the definition of - tolerance.) So cute.

More cuties to share from last fall!

You can see the JOY in this family. They are full of love, kindness, and sugary lumps of adoration for their children.

I was 2 during our session, and baby C was all of 6 months. (That tongue! Oh my yummy-baby-goodness!)

I is in gymnastics, so she had little fear of the cityscape as we wandered around downtown.

I 's smirk in this image! The one word that comes to mind - cheeky.

Outdoor Buffet

The last time I saw this little girl, she was a brand new little thing. Now T has turned one!

Over her birthday this past Christmas, she was sick, and so her momma didn't feel it was the right time to put her in her Christmas dress, but she had this whole adorable outfit planned for her baby girl! So T got to play dress up in the Christmas outfit that never was, because it was too cute to just stay on a hanger for life!

Just like any one-yr-old, T is a pro at exploring her surroundings. Since she's not quite a walker yet, she still has a good vantage point of the blades of grass, specks of dirt, and muddy rocks that are within her reach. During our session, we had to make sure we cleaned off the dirt from her face before resuming pictures, since her best exploring tactic was using her tastebuds. (Her witty momma commented to her that 'this is not an outdoor Pancho's buffet!')

 

(Of course I had to snap something from this cute stage of toddlerhood!)

 

We started the session with just T, but soon her big brothers joined us after getting out of school for the afternoon. They are so good with her and the adoration is equal among the 3 of them.

S is a ham & a half. I try my best to make the kiddos laugh, but this 6-yr-old had me cracking up!

 

That thumb was with us often. S, M, T, & The Thumb. Precious little thumb-sucker. Like the ground-eating, had to capture this thumb sucking stage that is a part of her little personality at this age!

(How sweet are these siblings?! Can you see her love for her big brothers?!)

What brought on this huge smile from 9-yr-old M? His mom asking about his girlfriend...

 

I don't play around in Photoshop much, just the standard color-enhancing/editing. But I don't usually play with abnormal coloring, but something spoke to me about this image. In the end, I actually got two separate looks I loved.

December Cover

I neglected to post the December Denton Connection cover! (And it was one of my favorites!)
I love how the magazine threw in some yellow in the color scheme on the cover. It all came together so cute! (gorgeous kids & grandma + Christmas... gotta love it!)

How to Get a 4-yr-old (boy!) to Laugh...

So during these kiddos' session last week, I'm talking, trying to make them feel comfortable, getting to know them a bit, but of course the goal is for them to crack a smile. I was getting little smirks here and there, but not a *real* smile, the ones you mommas know and love. So I recruit Dad to help me out, and the first thing out of his mouth...well, to be honest I don't remember the exact wording (probably to your benefit!), but something along the lines of flatulence taking place right there...and, Oh! That hit a home run!  (Mr. D - are you for hire?)

And in case you can't tell, little B is quite smitten with big brother. The whole session, I don't think he could have kept any closer to him. Sweet.

Big sister, G, is so helpful and caring. (And knows how to rock a hat! I loved her whole ensemble - the accessories, sparkly jeans, Converse shoes! Mom did an awesome job putting the family's outfits together. She said orange is their favorite color, so she just based everything around that, with some accent colors, and voila! A beautiful, fall, family wardrobe.)

 

This image literally made me gasp! Family love & interaction - this sums up how I view my job as your photographer, and my goal: to capture you and your loved ones just being together. heart. heart. heart.

Little B, the daredevil. I asked his mom some questions about the kids' personalities, and when talking about B, she said he is "unique and funny - he is our smile and we are a happier family because of him." (Could any more beautiful words be spoken about a little guy?!)

*Oh, and don't you love B's saddle shoes, (and his hat!) I don't think I've ever seen that shoe paired with jeans before, and I think it couldn't be cuter!

You guys are such a sweet, loving, & FUNNY family! Who knew our time together was going to be educational and that I'd get to leave your session with a new technique to make my littlest clients giggle?!

Dimple (singular)

Siblings J, A, & K ran to me as fast as they could from California!
(Corny, I know, but moderately true...) They came in town last week to visit their grandparents, and we scheduled a session for the 3 of them & their mommy during their stay!

(I think the part about them not living here, but in perfect-weather California, was also given away by their perfectly tan little bodies!)

Guess how old big sister is... (Followed closely by brother J, 3 years old, and baby sister A, 2 years old!)

"CHEESE!"

Though the "cheese" doesn't stick around long when you ask a toddler to see her tummy! **Could she BE any cuter?!**

Their beautiful mommy is 6 months pregnant with baby brother. (I think in this picture, she looks Angelina Jolie-esque!)

Little A's personality is one you want to bottle up and sprinkle around! (And that single dimple on her left cheek! Kills me with cuteness!)

J made me work for his smiles! He just seems like at home, he would be the goofiest, funniest kid, but pull a camera out, and he gets all manly and serious! (Not that I don't absolutely L.O.V.E. non-smiley pictures - when kiddos just look you straight in the eye and you can see emotion come out, like the b/w image of him below.) Oh, how I love both of these shots of this sweet little man!

This guy makes me laugh. His look in this picture... as if to say " may I help you?" (While I'm shoving my big camera in his face!)

Suburban Urban

Remember these guys from last year?

I think it's safe to say they've grown a bit!

*Love sister's carefree little Swedish shoe in the air. (Daddy is from Sweden, and they go to visit family every year - and pick up cool items like authentic clogs!)

It's her birthday today. The big 0-5!

Brother, at 15 mons. old, is all.over.the.place! His momma warned me to be prepared to get a workout, and whew! I was huffing and puffing during this little stint of chase captured below.

Mommy caught him for some snuggles.

This is her birthday dress for her party Saturday. She's having a Mariposa party, and her mommy found the perfect, matching dress for L to greet Mariposa in when she arrives to her party!

K shared his books with me. (Poor L got left in brother's room when K's speedy feet took us to the foyer!)

The little pianist. She is so delicate and dainty here. Love it.
